Meet Our Farm Manager: Reggie Moten

At the Kansas Black Farmers Association (KBFA), we are proud to introduce our Farm Manager, Mr. Reggie Moten, whose decades of experience and passion for sustainable agriculture are helping shape the future of our farm.

His journey began in 1997 with Master Gardener training, and he has since completed multiple programs while gaining hands on experience farming in Maryland and West Virginia. A pivotal chapter of his journey took place on the Delmarva Peninsula, where he and his wife, Theresa Byers, completed an Extension Master Gardener certification while living and working on a farm. During this time, they developed the skills to grow in sandy soil conditions and deepened their commitment to organic and regenerative practices.

Together, they went on to manage The Righteous Roots Community Garden, where they explored sustainable growing methods that make farming more accessible, productive, and beneficial for both people and the environment.

What excites Mr. Moten most about his role at KBFA is the opportunity to grow food in harmony with nature. His focus is on producing high quality, nutrient dense crops year round while building healthy soil through composting and regenerative systems. He believes that strong, living soil is the foundation for both plant and human health.

Beyond his technical experience, Mr. Moten brings a deep passion for learning, teaching, and sharing knowledge. He values the interconnectedness of nature and is committed to helping others understand the benefits of working with it rather than against it.

Under his care, a variety of crops are thriving, including garlic, onions, fresh greens, herbs, red okra, and amaranth, each representing nourishment, resilience, and the power of intentional farming.

At KBFA, we are grateful to have leadership that reflects both skill and purpose. With a strong focus on sustainability and community, the future of our farm is bright.
